Everyone wants to look and feel their best on the big day and there’s sure enough to think about on your wedding day. Hence, you definitely don’t want to be worrying about your flabby arms or sucking in your stomach for photos! Many brides (and even grooms!) embark on new diets and exercise routines to lose weight or tone up for that fitted gown or tailored tux, but with so many ways from workouts to lifestyle changes, it can be hard to know where to start. We’ve gathered a few tips that you can follow to achieve your goals before your big day.
1. Plan Well
The key to ensure that you’re not adding additional stress to the tasks ahead is to plan well. If you have a bigger weight loss goal in mind, start early by planning out a workout regularly before your big day!
However, you should always have a realistic weight loss goal and plan it accordingly. Take into account your need to reach a fairly stable weight by your next tux or gown fitting. Pre-wedding jitters may cause you to lose some extra pounds just before the big day, hence, ensure to book a last appointment with your tailor at least a week before to accommodate these last-minute alterations. Another tip to avoid misfitting your perfect gown is to sustain your weight with healthy meals, snacks, and stress-reducing workouts instead of high-intensity fat-burning training during the last week before your big day.
Top fitness professional, Jane Wake, agrees and advises brides and grooms to start exercising as early as possible to ensure the best results. “Many brides get so hectic in the last few months in the run up to the big day so I definitely think the longer you give yourself the better, and definitely don’t leave it until the last minute”, she says.
2. Cut Down on Alcohol, Sugar & Refined Carbs
As convenient as it seems, ditch the ready meals and your favourite instant noodles! Cut down all the daily nightcaps, processed food that’s high in sugar, salt, and saturated fat, and refined carbohydrates (eg: white bread, pizza dough, etc). Consider swapping white bread, white rice, and pasta for wholegrain counterparts.
3. Load Up Fruits & Veggies for Great Skin
With a healthy diet that consists of whole foods, fibrous (without unprocessed food, high in fruit and vegetables, wholegrain carbs, plant-based proteins, and lean meats), it helps to leave a radiant complexion that no amount of makeup can provide.
According to many nutritionists, it is advised to eat foods with purple skins (berries, purple cabbage, aubergine), leafy greens, sweet potatoes, and tomatoes as these contain high amounts of carotenoids which boasts antioxidants properties and Vitamin A that is vital for the formation of healthy skin. It has been also linked that purple-coloured foods reduce the risks of cancer, stroke and heart diseases. Incorporating healthy fats (oily fish, avocado, nuts), reducing alcohol and caffeine intake will easily help you achieve that beautiful bridal glow.
4. Reduce Bloating
Water — the most vital liquid for human consumption helps to reduce bloating and also keeps you hydrated, preventing overeating from your sinful sugar and salt cravings. A general rule is to drink eight cups a day, but not everyone really needs this much water or some might need even more. To gauge, take your current body weight (in pounds), and then divide it by two and the result equates to the number of water ounces that you should be drinking on a daily basis.
5. Make Cardio Your BFF (at least 45 minutes session)
If your goal is to tone up and lose inches quickly, pilates or yoga is the quickest way to develop lean muscles and improve your posture. Good posture helps to create a long and svelte figure, which is slimming on the waist, and the deep core workouts practiced in pilates and yoga makes you fit seamlessly in your dream dress.
6. Reduce Stress
Stress makes people reach out for snacks habitually, hence the term ‘stress eating’. Try meditating or scheduling yoga classes regularly to reduce stress, so you’re less likely to crave for fast or processed food, overeat or skip meals when your body needs the calories to be active. Meditation and yoga are two popular methods that encourage relaxation and to calm pre-wedding nerves effectively.
Don’t mourn for all the snacks you have to bid goodbye, instead, you should be thinking of it as choosing snacks differently (try healthy bites like dried fruits or nuts) and as a long-term change for a healthy lifestyle. This small change in your thinking can help to make you feel more empowered instead of it being like a punishment.
7. Seeking For A More Support
If scheduling a fitness plan or changing your lifestyle habits fully seems a little too much to handle at the moment on top of all the other wedding decisions, consider opting for a tailored skin tightening or radio frequency-based body shaping treatment plan to achieve your wedding aesthetic and weight goals quickly and effectively.
