Facials: Is There A One-Size-Fits-All Treatment? 3 Things To Look Out For When Going For A Facial

If one were to think of facials, words like rejuvenation, relaxation and luxury come to mind. However, it can become a nightmare if you choose the wrong one and end up having skin that is damaged or irritated. Before you determine if the facial is right for you, you have to take the time to understand your own skin and its specific needs. Choosing the right options will help you obtain a healthier and more radiant complexion.

Your skin is the body’s largest organ and is as complex as any of your other vital organs like your heart or lungs. Using products that are too harsh or products that are unsuitable for your skin can send the wrong signals to your body, resulting in skin that is damaged and dry. So what should you look out for when you are going for a facial?

1. Do you have Sensitive Skin or Oily Skin?

If you have sensitive skin, you will know the woes of having to try all kinds of facial products or treatments. At the end of the day, you go back disappointed because it has caused your skin much discomfort and pain. The sensitive skin requires delicate attention and care, and you should always consult an aesthetician before you do any treatments.

Always provide a thorough run through of your skin history (If you are consulting a new aesthetician)! When having the consultation, professional aestheticians should provide the opportunity for warning you on any allergens to take note of.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, oily skin can be frustrating especially because it’s something that you’re born up with. Oily skin is obviously annoying when too much oil is produced. This causes the pores on your face to enlarge because the skin stretches beyond its capacity to handle the amount of oil being generated. As the pore lining thickens, it causes your skin to worsen and end up blocking oil from getting from to your skin’s surface, resulting in blackheads and white bumps to form.

2. What is your Objective?

You may be going in for a facial just for the relaxation and enjoyment of it. However, if you have a clear idea of what you would like to attain at the end of the treatment, it can provide you with a much more pleasant experience. Here are some objectives you can consider:

  • Reduce Wrinkles and Skin Age
  • Brightening and Whitening Of The Face
  • Improving Skin Elasticity
  • A More Moisturized skin
  • Reduce Skin Pigmentation
  • Detoxifying Your Skin

Once you are able to identify a clear objective, your aesthetician can recommend an ideal facial for you as well.

Although you may have a clear objective, do go in with an open mind as well. Your aesthetician is there to share their knowledge on skin care and also offer advice and make sure that you continue to glow long after you have left your facial treatments. If you have any product that is not working out for you, be willing to try new products because your aesthetician is experienced in their field and can tell you what products should work for your skin.

3. If you are getting a facial for a big event (Eg. Wedding), how close is the event?

With all big days, it is recommended that you schedule your appointment in advance. Having your facial on the day of or the day before the major event is a definite no. Your skin may be fine but it is safer not to allow such chances of ruining your big day. Plus, you are probably already in a stressful state already.

The recommended time before a big event to get your facial depends a lot on how often you receive such facials. If you have never done a facial before, having one at the last minute will definitely leave high levels of uncertainty and increase the chances of you breaking out. Conversely, if you get it often but you change the products that are used, you may also result in higher chances of breaking out. It is always ideal to speak to your aesthetician and get advice on the timeline of your treatments as early as possible.

If you’ve given it enough thought and would like to have a facial but you’re still unsure about which kind to get, The Body Firm has professional aestheticians with years of experience and can provide a more personalised analysis for you.
